Action's expansion in Europe accelerates as store total tops 2,750 Fer House
Dutch non-food discount retailer Action saw sales rise 20.9% to €9.6 billion in the first three quarters of the year, with growth driven by new store openings and new customers.
The majority of the 20.9% sales growth was attributable to the
189 new store openings, while existing stores realized 9.8% same-store sales growth. The chain said the latter growth was due to attracting more shoppers who were attracted by the thousands of price offers Action is rolling out in 2023 and 2024.
The 189 new stores opened by Action in the first three quarters of 2024 brought its total store count to 2,755 in 12 European countries. The company is expected to open 350 new stores for the full year 2024, 20 more than expected. This means Action will open around 160 new stores in the final quarter of 2024.
The discount retailer is focusing on Southern European markets, with Italy and Spain being its fastest growing markets.Action recently opened its 100th store in Italy and its 50th store in Spain. The company also entered the Portuguese market in February 2024 and has already opened six new stores in the country.
